At Shop Small Fort Worth are all about preserving our community’s character through local businesses. We care about their stories, their trials, and their successes. We are excited to get to know the business owners and creators on a more intimate level and understand exactly what inspired the formation of their businesses and how they want their business to impact the local community. Here, in our “History of the Business” Blog Series, we let them tell their stories, and maybe, by doing so encourage others to start one of their own!

This week we are sharing on Aliena Davis owner of Precision Chiropractic. We asked Aliena a few questions to get to know her, learn about her business and why she loves being a part of the Fort Worth small business community! Read on to the end to find a special giveaway from Precision Chiropractic!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your clinic?

I own Precision Chiropractic here in Southwest Fort Worth. Growing up in Alaska, I never imagined I’d end up in Texas – let alone living and working in Texas – yet, here I am, loving life!
I met my husband in college and together we chose to embark on the wonderful adventure that is launching, maintaining, and developing a business.

Our clinic is nestled in the growing outskirts of Fort Worth – conveniently located within minutes of I-20, TX-183, and the Chisolm Trail Parkway, one mile from the growing Waterside development and just a short drive from the up and coming River District.

This is the view of our office from Bryant Irvin Road. We are located between Bonnell’s Restaurant and Fort Worth Country Day School.

What made you want to start your clinic?
I saw a need for comprehensive, collaborative care during and after pregnancy for our Fort Worth families. My desire is to have a positive impact on the health of the next generation, and I work to accomplish that by helping people have comfortable, healthy, empowered pregnancies and births. This in turn lends itself to a healthier postpartum “Fourth Trimester,” giving your baby the best chance at a healthy start in life. Whether you’re planning a quiet, intervention-free home birth or opting to schedule a c-section, you deserve a comfortable, pain-free, active pregnancy, and the best chance at a quick and easy postpartum recovery.
No matter your birth or postpartum plans, you’ll find our supportive, inclusive, and competent care to be the perfect addition to your healthcare team.

We offer free classes to the community every week at Waterside and once a month at Babies “R” Us. Topics range from birth plan workshops to pregnancy fitness.

What have been your biggest struggles so far in owning your own business?
Developing this company has been a wonderful adventure, but like most good things, it doesn’t always come easily and nothing happens overnight. I identify the biggest struggle so far as the simple fact that any time you do something for the first time, there’s a learning curve. Every entrepreneur knows that one must wear many different hats – sometimes all at once – especially in the early stages of any business venture. After spending so much time in academia where there’s relatively little variety to the roles one must play (mission: Study. Learn all of the things. Become a competent clinician.) it is sometimes challenging to balance all of the new roles of owning and running a business. However, with each challenge comes a new opportunity to learn and acquire new skills.

These durable, memory foam pregnancy pillows allow patients to lie face-down safely and comfortably on our adjusting tables throughout their entire pregnancy.

Thinking about the past year, what has been one of your big successes?
In addition to being the first chiropractic clinic in Fort Worth to officially become a Blue Zones Project participating organization, I’m most proud of the network of collaborative professionals with whom we have developed great working relationships in the eight months we’ve been open.

Our top priority is the well-being of our patients and if they need something that we are not equipped to offer, it is important to us to be able to connect them with the appropriate resource.

This is a shot of the play area we have stocked with fun, age appropriate toys for the kiddos – just one of the many family-friendly features we designed into our office!

When you aren’t busy with your business, what do you like to do?
You’re gonna laugh. I’m *that* dog mom. I have a senior mini poodle and I like to do everything with him. My husband and I take him biking (in his doggie backpack). Walks are always a big hit. If it’s too hot for anything active (so basically May-October, right?), we enjoy experiencing the many pup-friendly patios around Fort Worth for a family brunch.

Where do you draw your creativity?
Honestly, I’m about as creative as a Pet Rock. My inspiration for new approaches or ventures comes from seeing the needs of our patients and the community and brainstorming a way to bridge that gap.

Thankfully, I married a wonderfully creative man and when things need to be polished or creative solutions are in order, he’s in charge of making that happen and he does an excellent job of it.

This is me and my husband. We met in college and recently celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary.

What do you like most about being part of a community of small shops in Fort Worth?
Fort Worth has a very unique “feel” to it and I love being a part of that. We have all the convenience of a booming city, but very little of the headache of one.

It’s fascinating to watch business associates and friends as they navigate the unique journey of establishing and growing their own companies. The best part is when we all work together for the benefit of our community. ”
