About Shop Small Fort Worth

Shop Small Fort Worth is a place to celebrate, promote and support artists, craftsmen and businesses in our community. Our website is a one-stop shop for discovering local hidden gems and unique places to eat, play and shop. Planning your next event or your next visit to Fort Worth? Our site can help with that too.

We were inspired to create this website, not only to share all that Funkytown has to offer but also to create a community for local businesses to feel supported and connected. It is exciting to get to know these businesses, build relationships and tell their stories of realized dreams and the hard work, obstacles, and even failures they may have had along the way! We started this journey only a few months ago, but it was only a matter of time before we realized we didn’t need to travel far for unique boutiques, fun dining experiences and amazing events. We choose to engage here, in our community, to eat, play, live and shop locally. By doing so we are giving back to the businesses that help give our city its character!

So whether you’re coming to visit The Fort and surrounding areas, or you’re a local, welcome! We are so happy that you’re here. We hope that you come to love and respect these hard-working locals as much as we do.

Why Eat, Play and Shop Local?

Preserve our community’s character. Where we shop, where we eat and where we play all play a part in making our community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of what gives our community its distinct character. Locally owned shops also offer more of a custom selection, geared for the local market and our particular needs and interests.

Keep money local. Several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally-owned business, rather than a nationally-owned businesses, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers, and farms — continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community. Of every dollar spent at a locally owned business, about 70 cents stays local. Of every dollar spent at a national corporation, less than 40 cents stays local.

Strengthen your local economy. Each dollar you spend at independent businesses returns 3 times more money to your local economy than one spent at a chain (almost 50 times more than buying from an online mega-retailer) — a benefit we all can bank on.

Help local charities, local schools & local programs. Studies show that on average, locally owned businesses give three times as much as corporate chains that’s that’s 250% more support from smaller business owners than from large businesses.

Lower Taxes. Local businesses in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally- owned stores entering the community. More efficient land use and more central locations mean local businesses put less demand on our roads, sewers, and safety services. They also generate more tax revenue per sales dollar. The fact is that having a greater percentage of local independent businesses keeps your taxes lower.

Create more jobs and opportunities. Not only do independent businesses employ more people directly per dollar of revenue, they also are the customers of local printers, accountants, wholesalers, farms, attorneys, etc., expanding opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Ensure better quality & lower prices.  It’s all about healthy competition. Having thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term.
